The presence
Clorana similar of a resistant bacteria was determined from PCR by using specific primers and probe hybridizations based on a modified polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method with primers for S. aureus β-lactamase genes. A standard procedure was followed based on previous studies [11,14]. The PCR detection limit of 0.5,000 copies per gram total bacteria was selected based on the results of a previous study [12]. The total antibiotic resistance was measured as a percentage of the estimated theoretical resistance (R*) for the sample. Data obtained this study indicate that a total R* of 0.02% is estimated to be associated with the S. aureus strains used in this study. The R* values obtained using same antibiotics for two different S. aureus strain are consistent with other published data [20,21]. Statistical Analysis
Because this study was designed to investigate ST398 and ST9 resistance to azithromycin in a series of patients and to compare the MIC results between patients with ST398 and ST9, the SPSS statistical software system for Windows was used the analysis. significance of results was established using the Benjamini-Hochberg test. significance levels were: P<0.05, P<0.05 with Dunn, Kendall and Markov method; P<0.01, P<0.001 with the Wilcoxon rank-sum test; P<0.001 by one-tailed Fisher's exact test (Wilcoxon's-Mann-Whitney test); P<0.001 by the Kruskal-Wallis test; P<0.0001 two-tailed Mann-Whitney P<0.05 with the two-sided Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (Kruskal-Wallis method). RESULTS
Clinical Characteristics
Of the 41 clinical isolates evaluated and 32 of the 45 patients that had complete antibiotic testing, there were 31 strains with a total of 15 clinical isolates: three ST398 (2.9%), ST9 (4.1%), and seven mixed isolates (2.5%). Patients with ST398 showed an increased risk of developing clinical infection with a median MIC of 0.5 g/l with the addition of amoxicillin for ST398 compared to patients with ST9 (2 5 g/l) and patients with mixed isolates (2 to 3 g/l). In the case, an increased risk was reported for each azithromycin group. Patients with mixed isolates had a median MIC of the antibiotics tested with addition of amoxicillin for the most common strain ST398 at 1.7 mg/L what is the cost of bactrim or with the addition of amoxicillin at a MIC >30 mg/L for three or more different strains.
